EV charging cost calculator

Reviewed May 2026

Estimate the cost of charging an EV at home and away from home. Pick a car, set your mileage and home-charging share, then use your postcode to pull in live Octopus electricity rates for your region.

The calculator is a planning tool, not a tariff recommendation. It assumes the home-charged portion can use the chosen tariff rate, and any remaining miles use a broad public-charging assumption. Intelligent Go also depends on your car or charger compatibility and how its Charge Cap rules fit your charging pattern.

Your car

Tesla Model 3 Standard Range: 60kWh battery, 4 miles/kWh efficiency

Annual mileage

8,000 miles per year

Home charging

90%

90% charged at home = 1,800 kWh per year

Whole-home break-even check

Low-mileage EV households should compare the car saving against the rest of the home's electricity use. Add your rough annual household kWh, then estimate how much could realistically run in a Go or Intelligent Go cheap window.

Household use in cheap window 25%

675 kWh cheap-window household use, 2,025 kWh daytime household use
